Tara and Joakim inside their new Fjällräven Skule Shape R/S 2. A two person, small size, 3 season tent, perfectly made to withstand heavy winds and rain. With a great isolating inner tent, self-stabilizing tent-poles (to make it easier to set it up on rocky surfaces or in the mountains) and a lot of other highly durable and practical features.
The aero-dynamic looks of the tent makes it perfect for mountian hikes and to use in coastline areas. After trying it out, we both agree that it's not very roomy (back-packs have to be stored in the outer absid) but it suits our objectives perfectly.
Tara decided to take it in "UN blue" in order to enhance visability if we ever end up lost in a remote location. This is probably the biggest investment we've made so far (the tent is as top-of-the-line as you can get) but it's going to be nice to have the next time we take a hiking trip.
Included in the price was a complete Trangia storm kitchen stove which is nice - since we no longer have to rely on borrowing Kim's parents' stove all the time. Plus it's a lot safer. The parents' stove (bought in 1966) exploded on our last hike.
Places to go... Well, we will have to think about this for the future. Maybe it will not be suitable for our honeymoon, but it can sure be a fun adventure to make plans for.
The Norwegian islands of Svalbard provide beautiful sceneries for both hiking and kayaking. (And it is easy to borrow a high powered rifle as a safety measure for polar bears...)
Detailed descriptions of the hiking and kayak trails with some nice pictures added can be found here and here. Some of Kim's brother's friends went hiking there and they promise it is an unforgetable trip. Hopefully, Tara and Kim will be able to get there before his brother and his future bride Ida have gone there.
Another great nature experience would be to go hiking through Banff National Park in the
Canadian Rockies. As Kim has already been here, he is currently trying to talk Tara into going on a few-day hike along the mountain ridges between Moraine Lake and the Kananaski part of the Rocky Mountains.
If nothing else - we are both quite excited about being able to travel the Kungsleden (King's trail) up in the north of Sweden. But all of these ideas will have to be prepared for with a lot of exercise in advance - like taking day-trips with heavy packing, since these hiking trails are both long and cover parts of the world where the altitude is pretty high.
At least for now, we've got our tent. ;)
